Greetings from the Shores of Moose Pond!

Situated along the shorline of Moose Pond, Boys 13-16 learn and grow through supervised activities and friendly competition.

Senior Winona is a fantastic place to spend your summers. Activities are chosen twice a day allowing campers the flexibility to try new activities or spend time at familiar favorites. The senior schedule also provides more flexibility and has some down time to work on reading or catching up with tent mates.

Senior activities offer a wide range of experiences. Start off with basic skill and work up to a point where campers help teach each other. New in 2003, Mountain Biking was added as a senior only activity. Explore the many trails around Winona while learning how to “bunny hop”! Rock Climbing on our 30ft. wall, leads up to day trips out on the rock twice a week. White water kayakers learn the basics on Moose Pond before journeying to the Saco and Androscoggin Rivers, Popham Beach, or the Kennebec River. Mountain and Canoe trippers cover much of the states of Maine and New Hampshire on day hikes and overnights progressing to five-day trips. And there is our popular Allagash Wilderness Waterway Canoe Trip (see Trips page for more details).

Life in camp is just as busy with sports like lacrosse, soccer, basketball, tennis and baseball; as instructional and intercamp competition. Less strenuous activities include archery, riflery, campcraft, art and woodworking (sloyd). Participate in the Junior Maine Guide Program (JMG) founded at Winona. This state recognized program focuses on outdoor living skills and culminates with a week long testing camp (see page). Riding is always fun for both the novice and experienced. The sailing program covers all levels using club juniors and laser sailboats. The sailing program includes a regatta circuit for those interested in sailing against other camps in the area.

That all happens during the day! In the evening, the great evening programs take place which include both an outdoor game with the whole unit such as King Pin Dodge Ball, Speedball or Capture the Flag. This is followed by a more “intellectual” game like Name that tune, Mallets Mallet or Pictionary.

Often in Senior a special event may occur in the evening. Campfires with Wyonegonic (our sister camp) occur about five times a summer. Other special events include trips to the Portland Seadogs (Boston Red Sox AA affiliate) or a day at the beach.

The attire in Senior is standard summer clothes; the camp outfit is worn on Sundays, special occasions and for athletic events only.
