Winona campers choose their own activities several times a day. The choices are too numerous to list, but they include all of those things which make boys' eyes sparkle...riding horses, shooting guns, swimming, playing team sports, doing crafts, mountain climbing, hiking, boating and on it goes.

Boys at Winona are given every opportunity to talk about whatever they have done. Whether it be the successful "capture" of a medicine stick, the adventures of an overnight trip, or simply the play-by-play of some intramural rivalry, a camper is encouraged to tell the others in his unit what happened to him.

Kept at the unpressured level of "story-telling," and inviting a healthy mix of fact with fiction, these narratives help campers embrace a much more personal summer. "Talk of mystery! Think of our life in nature -- daily to be shown matter, to come in contact with it -- rocks, trees, wind on our cheeks! the solid earth! the actual world! the common sense! Contact! Contact!
