Junior Winona best camp in Maine, Boom, Boom, Boom!!

Situated along the shorline of Moose Pond, Boys 7-11 learn and grow through supervised activities and friendly competition.

Our unit song says it all! Junior is one unit at Winona where campers are encouraged to try all the great activities Winona has to offer. Campers choose twice a day what they want to do for activities. From swimming in our own swim area, to canoeing or kayaking on Moose Pond. Swinging a tennis racket, or tossing the lacrosse ball, shooting hoops or running the bases are just a few of the great sports offered. Campers enjoy getting to know the horses as they travel up the camp road to go riding. Sailing is always popular using the JY Dinghies, which look like small bath tubs but sail great! Others enjoy shooting a bow or rifle, or quiet gimp making in art.

Juniors at Winona have a canoe and mountain trip program as well! Many day hikes around Maine and New Hampshire, along with overnights are a great way to be introduced to the great activity of hiking. Canoe trippers start with easy one night trips, leaving right from camp on Moose Pond.

Even more activities are available for those who enjoy nature. The ecology program explores the many ponds and bogs on the Winona property. The boys also head out of camp on day trips to the State of Maine Animal Farm and explore the tide pools at the ocean. Campers interested in campcraft, outdoor living skills, can participate in the Junior Maine Woodsman program. The JMW program teaches the basics of living in the outdoors in Maine, and tests one's knowledge in certain areas.

Before signing up for afternoon activities, the Indian Tribes are busy showing the totem. As an Ojibway, Delaware, Mohawk or Seneca, each team works at showing the totem and trying to have a successful showing where one of the other teams are not able to catch the stick. But watch out for those scattered about clothes. “Pound” works against the tribes.

Junior's the finest place. We know it’s great!

There is no better way to wind down a summer day than with an evening program of king pin, dodge ball, or capture the flag!

These are just some of the many events and activities during great days of summer in Junior Winona that everyone should experience!
